Solitary by Jenny Moynahan

Features

ARTIST NOTES: During lockdown in Melbourne, I was lucky enough to be able to walk along the beach. I had noticed these two dinghys for weeks, and one day I spotted a pelican flying towards them. I was absolutely delighted when this pelican landed on the edge of one of them. Snap with the phone camera and this is my interpretation of this solitary pelican. It is such a calming painting with the blue of the water, but the pop of colour of the dinghys really brings it alive.

ARTIST BIO

Painting is something that appeared in my life as I was reaching towards early retirement. I went to an open day at a local artists residence and she encouraged me to have a play with her water colours. I took some night classes with her, and towards the end of my time with Karin, I progressed to acrylics from water colours. Since then I have thrived in an acrylics based art class with another local artist, Ivana who is also based in my area. My career as an Accountant finished, and now I am enjoying the challenge of using the other side of my brain.

I enjoy landscapes and seascapes, but also love the challenge of flowers and am currently exploring the human form too. I want to try to paint everything that I can in an impressionistic style. I spent my whole life calculating figures to the cent, now my focus is on losing the detail in art and blurring the lines.
