Tawny Frogmouth by Jenny Moynahan

Features

ARTIST NOTES: A chance sighting of a Tawny Frogmouth chick which was camouflaged in a tree at a local park was snapped by a friend when she was out walking. I decided to brighten this little happy fellow up with dashes of colour and texture. Most of the paint has been applied with a palette knife to add depth and structure. These bright colours would adapt themselves to any room and how can you resist such a cheeky grin?

ARTIST BIO

Painting is something that appeared in my life as I was reaching towards early retirement. I went to an open day at a local artists residence and she encouraged me to have a play with her water colours. I took some night classes with her, and towards the end of my time with Karin, I progressed to acrylics from water colours. Since then I have thrived in an acrylics based art class with another local artist, Ivana who is also based in my area. My career as an Accountant finished, and now I am enjoying the challenge of using the other side of my brain.

I enjoy landscapes and seascapes, but also love the challenge of flowers and am currently exploring the human form too. I want to try to paint everything that I can in an impressionistic style. I spent my whole life calculating figures to the cent, now my focus is on losing the detail in art and blurring the lines.
